Representative Santos has refused to resign ahead of a vote to oust him.
Representative George Santos of New York faces a third attempt to expel him from the House of Representatives. He has refused to resign while federal charges are pending against him. Historically, members of Congress have been convicted prior to being expelled.
Both Congressman Santos and House Speaker Mike Johnson have expressed concerns about establishing a precedent of expulsion before conviction.
This is the third time a motion has been brought to the House floor regarding Representative Santos’ expulsion, the previous two motions having failed. He was found to have lied about much of his resume, he received funds from dubious sources and used those funds for luxury expenses. He is currently facing federal indictments for embezzlement and fraud in New York.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Speaker Johnson as he presides over the House of Representatives.
- For Representative Santos to cooperate with federal prosecutors and be transparent about his dealings.
- For members of the House to be prudent as they consider the motion to expel their colleague.
